A motherless paternity test involves a child and an alleged father; the child’s mother is not tested.
A motherless test is more complex than a standard trio test (involving the mother, the child, and one alleged father). In a trio test, the laboratory is able to eliminate the mother’s contribution to the child’s DNA profile and focus exclusively on the father’s contribution. In a motherless test, the mother does not contribute a DNA sample, so her contribution to the child’s genetic profile cannot be eliminated. The lab must sort out the child’s inheritance of DNA markers only by examining the alleged father’s and the child’s profiles.
To produce conclusive results, a motherless paternity test requires additional testing and analysis. Prophase Genetics performs this additional testing and analysis at no extra cost to you. More importantly, the results of a motherless test are just as accurate and reliable as those of a trio test.
